Become a Friend of LOKA

Loka’s school is situated in a village in a remote part of India. Parents of students generally work as small scale farmers and day labourers. They are unable to afford fees for quality education. Through Loka, their children have access to a unique school that educates students to shine in their full potential, empower their community and inspire the world. Invest in a Bright & Beautiful planet by uplifting a village through education. As a Friend of Loka you receive regular updates of the progress of Loka’s school & community and are invited to (online) events.

This page is meant for Indian donations.

The school has already made several improvements and additions.
Here are some great examples!

Laptops and reliable internet

Donations have enabled the school to purchase laptops and tablets and to install and maintain a good Internet connection. This allows for online classes, which is crucial due to the remote location of the school, and mindful use of new technology for students from grade 5 onwards.

An Art Room and Library

Thanks to kind donations from Loka’s worldwide community of friends Loka’s school now has a library and art room. In the near future we hope to support the realisation of an eco-science lab for scientific research and experiments and innovation especially on the field of agriculture.

Bomen Plant

Planting trees

Students are involved in gardening and farming activities at school. They manage the gardens, plant trees and help on the farm. Hundreds trees have been planted on the school grounds and surrounding area, creating a micro-climate and attracting many birds and butterflies and adding in many more ways to the biodiversity. Sharing fruits with students and the village are treats. But the trees are also wonderful to climb and to teach and learn in its shade.

School trips

n outing is always an adventure – especially for children who otherwise hardly ever eave their village. Such an experience expands their world in many ways.

“Learning trips at Loka are organised mindfully and include picknicks in mango orchards, walking in the footsteps of the Buddha, observing cultural heritage and drawing what we see, writing stories of our experiences and reflecting on the world around us – and our roles in it.”

Clothing

Thanks to donations from the Nunc Foundation (of the French Michelin family) and Thriwe India, Loka’s children have 3 sets of beautiful school uniforms and a sweater each. In the UK a group of elderly women knitted scarves and caps to keep Loka’s students warm during the cold winter months.
